Today is the 61st foundation day of Maharashtra State. Mumbai is the capital city of Maharashtra State. Hundreds of peaceful protestors of Samyukta Maharashtra Samiti who were protesting peacefully in favor of Samyukta Maharashtra, lost their lives in the brutal killings on order of Morarji Desai. Additionally newly formed Maharashtra state paid hefty sum to the state of Gujarat in return of Mumbai.
